Dr. Amanthi Chandrasena was born in Colombo,
Sri Lanka and migrated
with her family to the United States
at the age of three. She grew up in Palm
Springs, California. Although she loved sunny California,
and being near her family, she wanted to pursue her childhood dream of being a
physician.
Dr. Chandrasena wanted the opportunity to experience
different cultures and visit different places while receiving a great medical
education. She attended the University
Medical School of Debrecen, Hungary, where she studied her basic sciences and after
two years she transferred to the Medical University of Lublin, Poland, which
better prepared her for practicing medicine in the United
States. There she spent four years studying medicine, and in her spare time, traveling
throughout Europe. It was there she knew that she wanted a career in Family Medicine.
After completing medical school in 2004, Dr. Chandrasena
began her post-graduate training at the Western
Pennsylvania Hospital
in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There she had the opportunity to care for
patients of all ages and from all walks of life, all with varying degrees of
medical problems. Her focus in residency
was outpatient family medicine, women’s health, and preventive care and she
cherished the relationships she built with her patients. She received the “Patient Advocate Award” as
a second year resident and was elected Chief Resident by her peers, a role that
strengthened her leadership skills.
Dr. Chandrasena completed her Family Medicine Residency in
2008 and she and her husband soon moved back to California. Having family in the Central
Coast, and being such a wonderful
location, they want to make it their home. Here at Ventana Health, Dr. Chandrasena hopes to continue to build
lasting relationships with her patients and broadening her clinical knowledge. She
enjoys spending time with family and friends, baking and music.
Amanthi Chandrasena, M.D. is certified by the American Board
of Family Medicine.
